THIS 4 ISSUE RUN LEAVES US OFF WITH LOGAN IN HIS PAST BUT NOT THE PAST HE WANTED TO BE IN. He broke Asmodeus out of a S.H.I.E.L.D prison and wanted him to transport him to his past in the wastelands in order to save the grandson of Bruce Banner who he swore to protect. Instead Asmodeus transported his to different pasts in Logan's life.
The cool thing is that we get to see new drawings of famous Wolverine moments. This issue starts with Logan in the war of 1812. Then fast forwards to his Weapon X experiment. It ends by Logan being sent to his famous fight with the Wendingo and the Hulk.
Not sure where the story is going but I am in for the ride!!
We pick up Logan traveling through time with the amulet given to him by Asmodeus in his past during one of the biggest fights of his life. Against none other then the Hulk and the Wendingo.
When he realizes where he is he attempts to stay out of the fight and just get the amulet that he dropped and continue to travel until he gets to the time and place where he wants to go. Which is the Wastelands to save Banner's grandson. His plan gets interrupted when the Hulk insists on fighting him and throws the amulet very very far away. Logan finally finds it and transports to Japan where we get brown suit Wolverine. There he fights some samurai and see Mariko. One of the loves of his life. He kisses her and clutches the amulet once again where he is transported to when Jean Grey becomes the Dark Phoenix. Here he realizes that he cannot change the past because he wants to save her but he can't.
One more clinch of the amulet brings him to Madripoor and that is where #23 will pick up.
His next squeeze of the magic stone transports him to the Xavier Mansion where he is playing baseball with Rogue, Cyclops, and Ice man. He tells Bobby (Iceman) that in the future he is going to need him and he tells him the location where Asmodeus is keeping his body.
He clenches the amulet and is sent to the wasteland! Finally where he needs to be. Or is it? He is back at his home where his family was murdered by the Banner's. He walks in to get some closure and his family is there. Alive and well. He went back to before they died. And he doesn't want to leave.
Logan has a little bit of a revelation in this issue. He realizes that there is no way for him to change the outcome of the past in the state that he is in considering that only his consciousness in traveling through time and he decides that he shouldn't be concerned with the bad things that happened and to just focus on the good things that he misses.
He makes the most out of being with his family again. The way his wife makes him feel, the way his son would help him fix things, the hugs of his daughter. By the end the amulet that was broken is fixed by his daughter with a little glue and tape and he gives them all one last embrace and teleports back to the present where he is under the spell of Asmodeus who is trying to sell him to hydra.
However, the X-men remembered the warning he gave them back at the mansion and are there to save him. He thanks them and walks off to have some alone time where he comes to terms with not being able to change the past and we wait for the next adventure.
This is not the most impactful arc you are going to read and the pay off is sub par but the art is good, the plot is solid and you get to relive past wolverine stories that you love or if you are reading them for the first time, insightful.
