Still one of my favorite books right now, HJGLC is beginning a new story arc. This time with time travel!!
This issue highlights the struggle that the Green Lanterns and Yellow Lanterns are having since their new alliance. They fight a bit but Guy and John Stewart convince the two Corps that it is in everyone's interest if they just work together.
Elsewhere in the galaxy are a Green and Yellow Lantern on patrol that go missing on a strange planet and a future Green Lantern named Rip Hunter teleports onto MOGO and warns the Green Lanterns that they are wiped out in the future. Before he passes out on the last page and the issue ends!
Can't wait to see where this story takes us.
A very Terminator like issue. In the future John Stewart sends a Time Master named Rip Hunter back to the 2017 to warn the Green Lanterns of Sarko, the last remaining zealot of the yellow lanterns who figures out a way to destroy the Green Lanterns for good.
Rip warns the Corp that in the year 2047 there are no more Greens, just yellows because of Sarko. Sarko himself describes the successful joining of the Green and Yellow Lanterns in the future and he plans to stop it from happening in 2017 by using creatures that he commands called prism beasts that look like they are giant bugs made of green crystals.
As Rip is trying to convince the Green Lanterns that his story is legit, Mogo is attacked by the prism beast army and the issue ends.
In this issue it is revealed who and what exactly the green lanterns are fighting and why.
I love when books come full circle and this one does just that. At the beginning of this book, about a year ago, we saw Hal Jordan use a special green lantern gauntlet to forge a ring out of his own will.
After this Hal buried the gauntlet deep in a desolate planet so that he would never be tempted to use it again and that nobody ever else would either.
Well someone in the future finds out about this and uses the gauntlet to his benefit and now its all up to Hal to save the corp against an entity that the gauntlet produced itself to be free.
The finale of this arc was decent. We knew from issue #20 that Hal had to fight the creature, Cataclysm, which was made by Krona's gauntlet itself out of pure will. The same gauntlet Hal used to forge his new ring post New 52.
However, you thought that the battle was going to be epic and in reality, it was barely even a battle. I don't think anyone even threw a punch. Hal just grabs the gauntlets and breaks it. Story over and Sarko dies. Really anticlimactic.
The only twist that might come about in future issues is that we find out that Sarko is the future son of Kyle Rayner and Soranik Sinestro. Which makes sense why this future man, Sarko, knew so much about Sinestro and the Yellow Lanterns even though they didn't exist in his future time.
