This over sized anniversary special is titled, League of Shadows: Prologue and focuses mainly in Casandra Cain. A.k.a. Orphan. Orphan recently has played a major role in the Bat family and she is the daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva. As a child she was trained to be the worlds greatest assassin and consequently lost her ability to speak. Cassie has even donned the Batgirl cape as well while working with Oracle.
This book tries to give you a deeper understanding of the inner struggles that Casandra Cain deals with on a nightly basis. She struggles to separate with the human side of her and the assassin side of her. Actually it seems that she struggles just to be a human at all. The title sugguests some kind of involvement with the League of Shadows. Will Orpan join them or will she fight them?
After Batman and his team successfully took down the Colony crime in Gotham City is at an all time low! But is the city too quiet?
Secretly, the League of Shadows, led by Shiva, mother of the Orphan, is ready to pounce on a very vulnerable Batman Family and take over Gotham City.
How will the Orphan handle her mother? Will there be a mother-daughter battle to the death? Are we going to see a desperate Batman release Col. Kane and the Colony to aid Gotham City?
Overall, a good start to a story. Keeping my interest and will be awaiting part 2 in two weeks.
An okay issue at best. in short, Shiva finds out that her daughter is working with Batman so she goes to Gotham to test her. she fights her on a rooftop and bets her very easily. Batman comes to the rescue and gets his butt beaten by Shiva as well.
Shiva tells the Bat family that Gotham will fall and kidnaps Azreal and Duke before she disappears.
Another lack luster issue in my opinion. Orphan calls out Lady Shiva to ask why she abandoned her and Shiva kicks her ass. The League breaks into the belfry and destroys Clayface and stabs Batwoman in the stomach. In the Bat cave Bruce sees video surveillance of all this and finds Ra's Al Guhl there to greet him.
This issue is definitely an upgrade from #953. In this issue Ra's double crosses Batman and gives him up to Lady Shiva after knocking him out with nerve gas. Apparently, Lady Shiva was given a leadership role with the League of Shadows and pretty much took it over from Ra's Al Guhl. They struck a deal. Ra's gives Shiva Batman in return for Shiva leaving Ra's alone. She must be a badass supreme!
Meanwhile, Col. Kane is broken out of the belfry and wants to kill as many League members as possible and then find his daughter. The issue ends with Orphan about to attack the league. It just might be their only hope of taking Gotham City back.
This issue is very much an Orphan story, who I gotta say is becoming fairly interesting. Basically she saves Batman's life by fighting like 200 League of Assassins ninja's. At the end she is about to fight her mother Shiva and Batman and the rest of the family show up to help. This book hate a lot of cool fight sequences and the art was decent.
The finale of this arc is lack luster and just plain old not interesting. Orphan and Shiva face off and Shiva ends up getting shot in the back by Ra's Al Ghul. Prior to this Shiva armed a nuclear warhead that Batwing and Azreal couldn't disarm but Ra's could.
The entire Bat family was useless in this arc. If Detective continues to focus on everyone except Batman then I'm out.
