Justice League: Dark

2/5 Stars

Justice League Dark is the newest installment from the good people over at DC animated.  Over the years and 25 some odd movies, DC animated have consistently produced stronger movies  DC/Warner Bros. live action movies.  Justice League: Dark is no different but fails to live up to other DC animated movies in my humble opinion.
JL: Dark is DC comics answer to Marvel's Dr. Strange.  It attempts to showcase the magic side of DC and in many ways it does but overall the movie falls a little short.  The movie focuses on John Constantine, DC's sorcerer supreme and one of my all time favorite characters, Jason Blood and Zatana, who I knew very little about prior to this movie.

All over the world people are falling under a spell that causes them to see normal human beings as horrible looking monsters that resemble Cronenbergs on Rick and Morty.  These visions are causing very normal people to do very bad things.  They are killing what they think to be these monsters bur in reality they are killing other human beings.  It is up to Batman, Constantine, Zatana, and Jason Blood to figure out who is behind this and to stop them.

This movie was not bad.  It just isn't as good as other DC animated movies like; JL:Doom, Attack on Arkham, Crisis on Two Earths, Flashpoint or the Throne of Atlantis.

The biggest problem I have with this movie is the fact that they tried to trick you into thinking this is a Justice League movie when it is most definitely not!!  The Justice League members are literally in this movie for 10 minutes of the 115 minute run time.  Yes, Batman is in the movie the entire time but really has nothing to do with the outcome what so ever.

He was totally a 5th wheel and they threw him in the movie and prominently in the middle of the Blu-ray cover to trick you into thinking Bats was the main protagonist when he is hardly even a side character.  All he did was throw batarangs at ghosts and ghouls to no avail.  Seriously....that is all he did.  His detective skills and martial arts abilities were useless in this supernatural supernatural setting.  I think that they might have wanted to show batman being totally out of his realm and boy did they accomplish that.

Besides the marketing tricks, the supernatural stuff was good!!  Constantine and Zatana were great and they were able to really show off there supernatural abilities without it coming across forced or like magicians.  Even Jason Blood and Boston were entertaining in their roles as the straight guy and comic relief respectively.  In my opinion Constantine is way better then Dr. Strange on many levels.

So if you have some time and you like DC animated then give this a shot. Just don't expect to see the Justice League very much!
