Being such a huge fan of both of these characters and hearing from one of my favorite podcasts that this book is a Spidey essential, I had to go out and get it.
I honestly do not know how to feel about this book. It is definilty different and entertaining but I feel the story lacks any kind of purpose.
Pretty much the two heroes keep getting sent through time together and having to deal with whatever that particular time period has for them. Sometimes they are in prehistoric earth. Sometimes an alternate present, maybe even the future.
Along the way they deal with Devil Dinosaur, Doom the Living Planet, The Dark Phoenix, Dark Wolverine and some random girl that Pete falls in love with for no good reason. Even Spider-Man admits in the book that none of what is happening makes any sense.
With all that said, I still enjoyed this book for some reason and it is drawn beautifully! Not sure if it is essential but its worth the read.
Who says all these reviews have to be new? Why not take a look at some tried and true, bonafide classics while we are at it?!!
Marvel Comics has began to release a Wolverine themed series of true believers comics where they will be reissuing the most famous Wolverine comics for only $1. Thats right! $1. I will attempt to get as many as I can and release a review once a month.
I was so excited to see these and especially at the $1 price point. I haven't read this book in 20 years and to have that iconic cover in my hands felt so good!
"Im the best there is at what I do, but what I do isn't very nice"
Is there a better way to introduce a character? I don't think so!
We get introduced to Wolverine and his abilities (adamantium claws and bones) as he is doing what he does. Hunt. He is hunting down a rogue grizzly bear in the Canadian Rockies that has taken the lives of a couple of people. He makes easy pickings of this large ferocious animal and then hunts down the lazy hunter that didn't have the motivation to put this animal down when he should have. Instead he let him travel wounded and he let the bear hurt people.
Then the book moves to his love interest Mariko how she left him to go back to Japan and honor her fathers wishes of marrying someone else. This pisses off Logan and he dons the Brown costume and goes after her!!! He has to fight her dad for her hand and he gets his butt kicked.
The book ends with Wolverine in an ally. He is approached by some muggers and is saved by Yukiro who says, "You're mine Wolverine!"
Great start to this book with a confusing last 2/3's. Overall a good semi origin story. I give it a 3/5
