In a book that has wowed me for 23 issues this story arc is okay so far. It was bound to happen eventually and I am hopeful that the conclusion of this story will be more entertaining.
One of the most decorated Green Lanterns in the Corp is on trial for the murder of a Yellow Lantern and this threatens to break the alliance that the Greens and Yellows have recently made to work together as one peace keeping force.
Also, Soranik has found out about a pretty big secret that Kyle Rayner is keeping from her and goes Ape on him in this issue.
It looks like the new bond between the Green and Yellow Lanterns is about to break but can John Stewart keep it together? We will find out!
So just about the entire issue is the one on one fight between Guy and Akrillo, who is pretty much the Killowag of the Yellow Lanterns. As Guy is getting pummeled we get to see a glimpse of his childhood and his alcoholic, abusive father and part of the reason Guy is such a head case!
Guy wins in the end but takes such a bad beating that they tease a possible death by the end. I hope that isn't the case but we will see.
So far, in the Rebirth of DC comics this past year or so, there have only been 3-4 titles that continue to hold my attention and remain in my pull list every week. Along with Batman, Detective Comics, and some really cool cross over books, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corp. (HJ&GLC)is absolutely killing it in my opinion. We are 14 issues into this book and every time I see it in my bag on a Wednesday I can't wait to read it. This week is no different.
There have been two major story arcs in this book since Rebirth was launched last Spring and each one used a Colored Larntern Corp as their main antagonist. The Yellow (fear) Lantern's of Sinestro kick started the book with an amazing tale of Hal Jordan's return from exile and that was followed up by an Orange (greed) Lantern series where every beloved Green Lantern from Jordan to Rayner, was showcased in each issue.
This arc appears to be using the Blue Lanterns that are fueled by the emotion, Hope.
We pick up from the previous story arc, which can be found in our achieves. On Mogo, the Green Lanterns base, John Stewart and Soranik address the rest of the Green Lantern and Yellow Lanterns that teamed up to defeat the Orange Lantern, Larfleez. The plan is for the Greens and Yellows to join forces instead of fighting each other and any Yellow Lantern found that does not comply will be sent to the sciencells.
Meanwhile Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner are sent off by the Gaurdians to a hellish planet to find a Blue Lantern of Hope.......
A much needed one shot to break up all of the six issue story lines going on right now! This story takes place 60 years after the last story arc in HJ&GLC which was titled "Bottled Light", where the lanterns had to battle Larfleeze the Orange Lantern to set free the people of Xudar.
In this issue a Xudarian grandmother is telling her first hand account of the Bottled Light tale to her grandchildren. She tells them of the fear that she felt and how the lanterns used their will to overcome this fear and danger.
This issue is also used to set up upcoming arcs. She speaks of terrors that came after the Bottled Light event and two beautiful splash pages reveal what might be in store for us in future story arcs. A new ring of power perhaps?
